Col 1:18-21
Jesus is the life source and leader of the church. He will stand supreme.
Jesus is exactly who he says he is.
Jesus is number one!
We have boxes in our lives… sometimes we like the boxes in our lives
*family (family time, this is my family, what happens with family stays with family)
*free time (some of us more than others…)
*nothing (what are you thinking about…)
*money
*charity
*church (this is who we are in church)
*work
*me
*later (when we don’t have the emotional energy to deal with it right now, we put it in the ‘later’ box and hope that it just stays packed away.)
*Jesus box – we love Jesus – if we treat Jesus like another one of the boxes of our lives. However, Jesus should have the biggest impact on all ALL of the other boxes in our lives. He needs to be Lord of all. Affecting our family time, work time, the me box, and what happens ‘later’.
The way we live our lives should not be so compartmentalized that Jesus becomes just another box of our lives. He needs to be THE box that changes how we handle all the other boxes of our lives. Hes not an addition, he is the point.
Col. 1;18. He is the beginning, supreme over all.
Does our relation ship with Jesus surpass all other areas of our life? Is Jesus greater than anything else in your life?
John the Baptist John 3;30
He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less.
He becomes greater, we become less.
Col 1 15-17
He holds all creation together
Jesus becomes THE box in your life – holding everything together.
We have been made alive with Christ Jesus
Jesus is the visible image of an invisible God
Our faith has to be bolted to the person and the work of Christ. He is the only one capable for taking the penalty for the weight of our sins. He is the only one who redeemed us and he is the only one who could.
Paul was writing at a time when there were a number of false prophets and false teachers who spoke against Jesus being who he said he is. And without Jesus being who he said he is, all hope is lost. God is the God who protects and heals us; when we pray and cry out, he hears us because he truly is God! The work of Jesus on the cross, and rising from the grave, has provided everything we need to be free and to have life more abundant. The false prophets were trying to add boxes, saying there are different ideas and ways to obtain salvation… but they were wrong and Paul wrote to clarify and emphasize that while we were separated, through Jesus we are holy and blameless, we must believe this truth and stand firmly in it, do not adrift away from the assurance we have when we heard the good news.
Every area of our life is impacted by Jesus. It is not just a box, just a part of our life on Sundays from 9-11… We minimize the role that Jesus should have in our lives and compartmentalize it to just a few hours a week or to a prayer before we eat. The truth is, Jesus is supreme, and Jesus is enough. When Jesus is all you have, Jesus is all you need.
COL. 2:20-23
Jesus changes us from the inside out
The new version of you is so much better than anything you could ever imagine
Romans 6:1-4
You were purchased for a price, the blood of the lamb, you are no longer your own, and we belong to him.
